So, I found myself in the beer aisle at my local grocery store (as I [ahem] sometimes do), and something caught my eye.  It was a six-pack of Flying Dog Scottish Porter, which I have never tried.  But I didn't get it because I simply wanted to try the beer.  I got it because the carton had printed on it:

"Good beer.  No shit."

I was happy to support a company that would have such blatant disregard of the arbirtary social norm called "common decency".  Auto-censorship be damned!   Grin

Has anyone else ever purchased a brew solely based on marketing/advertising?  Were you disappointed?  (I haven't tried the Flying Dog yet, but I'll let you know...)

Heh.....I read your post on my RSS reader (where there's no indication of who wrote it), and thought my dearest Jinglenuts had written it.  Wink

I have most definitely bought beers just out of amusement over labels, really good ad campaigns, etc.  I've been disappointed a few times- but I've also discovered some really fabulous brews as a result.

Bottom line: this is just one of many things that will spark people to try new brews.  Like anything else, your mileage may vary.  Wink

Be well

Jinglenuts?

Is that a term of endearment??

LOL!!

Anyway, I'll post my opinion of the Flying Dog in the Beer Reviews section, to keep things in their proper repositories...   Smiley

I guess you could say that.  He WAS rather amused when I stood there in terminal a of Narita airport in December, waiting for him with a 'Jinglenuts' sign..... too bad I missed him coming out and didn't have it held high.  And this is how we started our adventure in Japan....with a Jinglenuts sign, and looking for the big hot dog....  Smiley

i would go to the store and but foods that were all one color.

i have also bought beverages simply because it was AWSOME. example: Orbitz was my favorite.

this is from wiki: "The small balls floated due to their nearly equal density to the surrounding liquid, and remained suspended with assistance from an ingredient known as gellan gum. The gellan gum provided a support matrix--something like a microscopic spider web--and had a visual clarity approaching that of water, which increased with the addition of sugar.

Orbitz came in five flavors:

Raspberry Citrus (introductory flavor)
Blueberry Melon Strawberry (introductory flavor)
Pineapple Banana Cherry Coconut (introductory flavor)
Vanilla Orange (introductory flavor)
Black Currant Berry (introduced later)"

i SO want a support matrix
